Historical Context
The Turbo variants of the NeXTstation upgraded from the 25 MHz 68040 to a faster processor, extending the platform's useful life into the mid-1990s. By then, NeXTSTEP was also running on Intel hardware — but the original NeXT machines retained a performance advantage for NeXT-native software.
